LuminWave’s self-developed silicon photonic FMCW detector coherent detection chip utilizes a local oscillator light to coherently amplify the emitted optical signal. The received signal can be amplified by up to 100,000 times. Compared with other solutions, this significantly enhances the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), thereby improving the LiDAR’s ranging capability and reducing the required optical power.

The unique Doppler effect of FMCW not only allows for direct velocity measurement but also virtually eliminates interference from ambient light and other LiDARs, addressing the challenges of outdoor and multi-LiDAR applications. By employing emerging silicon photonics technology, LuminWave integrates multiple optoelectronic systems (SoC) on a multi-channel FMCW chip. This integration dramatically reduces the size and cost of LiDARs, thus meeting the needs of automotive and other various LiDAR applications.
